In the art program at the Richmond Middle School, students are encouraged to build the skills and techniques necessary to express their unique thoughts and ideas. By exploring a variety of materials and techniques, and taking creative risks, students learn to commit to a project from planning to completion, work to high standards, and appreciate and value their own work and the work of others. In a friendly studio environment, students learn the value of offering and receiving feedback to improve their work and strengthen their personal voice. At the same time, they begin to see their work in a broader historical and cultural context.
