Thoughts from the front office

Dear RMS Community:

The snow has arrived.  Okemo and Killington are opening this weekend.  Temperatures are dipping into the 20s (though we still have multiple students - and at least one teacher - wearing shorts).   The days are becoming, in the lexicon of today, “super-short.”  We must be close to the end of 2022!

As we prepare for a two day week next week, we wanted to share a couple of reminders and updates in a shorter than usual Friday Focus.

First though - our weekly reminder that RMS is not a “regular” school by any stretch of the imagination. After indulging in creme brulee for snack (Austin and Seanna are amazing), some of our students were able to partake in the feast below.

RMS is special for so many reasons!

CONGRATULATIONS

  • 3 of our 4 Robotics teams who have moved on to the next round of competition.  Thank you to the students, parent coaches, and coordinators Ms. Warkentien and Mr. Hermanson for their dedication and effort to representing RMS.

  • Alexander Collins - who defeated the 1st, 2nd and 3rd seeds to become the youngest VT state chess champion in the history of the tournament.  A veteran of the chess club that meets at the Howe Library on Wednesday evenings, Alexander represented RMS wonderfully.

UPDATES

  • If you know that your family will miss school due to vacation (we know travel is hard to plan), please contact rmsattendance@hanovernorwichschools.org.  Generally we address work missed after the break - traveling is its own wonderful educational opportunity.

  • We will have some night time events at RMS over the next few weeks (concerts, talent shows, Haven dinners), and recently the lights in the parking lots have been fickle.  Please use the utmost care when driving near RMS - student familiarity with the building sometimes leads to less than careful behavior.  Thank you in advance for helping us take care of each other.

  • Is your student missing a coat? A hat? A boot? (there is always one shoe in the lost and found - not a pair - a singular shoe) We may have it in our lost and found.  We will try to organize a way to publicize what we have soon, but if anyone would like to help take pictures and organize the lost and found, please contact us.

Please enjoy the weekend.  Be well, stay safe, and take care of each other.
