Parent Resources for Talking to Kids about Suicide Prevention and Loss

When sensitive issues such as suicide come up, you can help your child by listening carefully, not overreacting, accepting his/her feelings, and answering questions honestly according to your beliefs. Please observe your child for any signs which indicate he/she may need help in dealing with tragedy, such as; talking about death, dying or suicide; feeling hopeless or having no purpose in life; increasing use of alcohol or drugs; increased anxiety or reckless behavior; sleep disturbances (either too little or too much); or increased isolation from others.
